Zircon flour is a finely ground form of zircon sand, a naturally occurring mineral primarily composed of zirconium silicate minerals. Zircon flour is produced by grinding zircon sand into a fine powder, and it is used in a variety of industrial applications due to its unique properties. Here is some key information about zircon flour:

  1. Composition: Zircon flour is primarily composed of zirconium silicate minerals, predominantly zircon (ZrSiO4). Like zircon sand, it may also contain trace amounts of hafnium (Hf) and other impurities.
  2. Particle Size: Zircon flour is characterized by its fine particle size. It is typically milled to specific particle size distributions to meet the requirements of various industrial applications. The particle size can vary depending on the intended use.
  3. Production: Zircon flour is produced by milling and grinding zircon sand to reduce the particle size. The desired particle size distribution depends on the specific requirements of the intended application.
  4. Market Demand: The demand for zircon flour is closely tied to the demand for ceramics, refractories, and other applications that require its unique properties. Market conditions and demand can fluctuate based on industrial and economic trends.
  5. Applications:
    • Ceramics:Zircon flour is a critical component in the production of high-quality ceramics, including refractories, foundry casting molds, and advanced ceramics. It is used as an opacifier, enhancing the opacity and brightness of ceramics.
    • Investment Casting:In investment casting, zircon flour is used as part of the ceramic shell mold to create precise and intricate metal castings.
    • Zirconia Production: Zircon flour serves as the starting material for the production of zirconia (zirconium oxide, ZrO2), which is used in various applications such as dental ceramics, cutting tools, and high-temperature crucibles.
    • Abrasives:It can be employed as an abrasive in sandblasting and grinding operations.
    • Chemical Industry:Zirconium chemicals derived from zircon flour are used in chemical processes and catalysts.

Uses:
Zircon is used in foundry industry mainly for casting and refractory application because if it excellent heat conductivity. Zircon is used in making of tiles and ceramic structures where it’s used as an opacifier or whitener to cover up the base colour of the ceramic body with thin layer of opacifying chemical which contains zircon flour in it.
Zircon sand & zircon flour having a very high temperature and abrasion resistance is also used in making of brake linings of very heavy duty vehicles like train brakes. Zircon sand is used in heat resistance lining in furnaces to make foundry moulds. Zircon is used for making ultra-high performance refractory bricks which has the highest heat baring capacity and very high thermal stability which is due to very high RUL (Refractory Under Load) nature of Zircon.

We Vstake Solution Pvt. Ltd are deeply engaged in offering a wide array of Zircon Flour to our valuable Clients located in Mumbai, in Navi Mumbai, in Thane and all over India.
